Southampton Super Casino Bid Deadline Extended
Wednesday 24th December, 2014
The last super casino license in the UK has recently been up for grabs with 5 firms actively bidding for it.
The deadline for the submission of the firms' detailed bids has, however, been extended to April next year. The move has come amidst requests from Aspers and Grosvenor due to insufficient available information on one of the super casino's proposed sites.
Some bids had the casino pegged at the £450m Royal Pier development, while others had it at the Watermark West Quay site, and the Leisureworld Complex in West Quay Road.
While the extension of the deadline of the bid comes as a welcome relief to some of the firms actively bidding on the super casino license, the move will cause the council to delay on releasing their decision. Previously projected to be awarded in June, that decision will have to be moved sometime in late 2015.
The super casino license allows for the operation of up to 30 blackjack and poker tables, plus up to 150 slot machines with up to £4,000 in jackpots each.
Once in operation, the super casino is expected to generate more than 6,000 jobs.
