Blackpool Casinos

Blackpool was once a popular destination for holidaymakers before flights to the continent made overseas travel more accessible, but this seaside town in the north west of England is still regularly visited by large groups of people looking for a good night out in the many pubs, bars, clubs and casinos; a weekend by the sea; or a trip to enjoy the famous Pleasure Beach or Illuminations.

Over the years, Blackpool developed a reputation as a good place to go on a stag or hen weekend and although this practice is still commonplace, there has been a conscious effort by local politicians to distance the town from the Blackpool of old in recent times and smarten up the city's image.

At the forefront of this drive is the £500 million Storm City project, a proposed 30-acre indoor entertainment centre featuring a 12,000-seat arena, four world class hotels, shopping complex and more.

As you would expect from a destination popular with people looking for a good night out, Blackpool's nocturnal hotspots are plentiful. The town centre boasts an impressive array of pubs, bars and night clubs and has something that will appeal to virtually everyone, not to mention Blackpool's three casinos: the G Casino, the Paris Casino Blackpool and the Circus Casino Blackpool.

The Genting Club, located on the sea front of the North Shore along the Queen's Promenade, is a member of the Genting Casino Group and offers all the regular casino games plus electronic roulette; once reopened after the fire damage suffered in 2009 the Paris Casino Blackpool will take up residence at the Number One club on Bloomfield Road; and the G Casino with its fine dining, sporting action on big screen TVs, 200-seat poker room and more can be found at the Sandcastle on the South Promenade.

Aside from the nightlife, casinos and Pleasure Beach, Blackpool's main attraction is the 'Blackpool Illuminations', a seven-mile long series of visual electronic displays which run along the sea front. The Illuminations usually begin in late August and run until November, attracting some 10 million visitors each year and in their heyday drew 17 million people. Each year a celebrity is invited along to switch the Illuminations on, an event that is one of the highlights on the Blackpool social calendar.

Blackpool is also well known for live entertainment, particularly comedy, and over the years some of Britain's best comic talents have performed there including the likes of Ken Dodd, Roy Chubby Brown and Peter Kay who performed at Blackpool Tower, the resort's other famous landmark.
